Covid-19 doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon, however there’s been plenty of stories of people in the games industry taking that leap of faith, relocating and starting their journeys in new and exciting positions elsewhere. We interviewed a number of individuals who agreed to share their experience in taking on new job opportunities in this new environment, and we hope their journeys can be educational as well as inspirational to others.

Anton Smolyarov, Head of UX @ Ten Square Games

Anton Smolyarov is a Head of UX at Ten Square Games. We asked him a few questions about his relocation experience.

GF: Where did you relocate from and where did you relocate to?

A: I relocated from Barcelona, Spain to Wroclaw, Poland.

GF: What motivated you?
A: Company, games, goals, and challenges.

GF: How long did the relocation process take?
A: About 6 months. Because of lockdown in Europe.

GF: Was the relocation smooth? Did you experience any unusual difficulties?
A: I can say it was smooth, the new and previous company did everything that they can to make this process easiest as possible. Of course, there were unusual difficulties but it was only because of the COVID situation. Flights were closed for a while and I waited when air companies will start again, quarantine and WFH which still actual).

GF: Your message to gamers and gamedev professionals worldwide…

A: There is no reason to postpone opportunities and hold your ambitions. Our life grows and changes dramatically fast anyway all the time, so it’s a part of all of us to be ready to change ourselves and our approaches.

GF: Thank you, Anton.

A: Thanks!
